Return to Today's Anthem View

Below is an Church UPDATE from Lynn Pendleton, a letter from the City, a message from Mike Dixon and finally, a letter from BLM.

AN UPDATE ON BLM AND GREEN VALLEY CHURCH

The following update is from Lynn Pendleton. Lynn volunteered to lead the SCA resident opposition to the Green Valley Church application to build a church/school compound next to Sun City Anthem:

I want to thank the CCC Task Force for their hard work, Luci Russell, Jean Eibs, Elaine Shapiro, John Molfetta, Marlene Bogdanovich, Willie Zajic, Ti Dulyanai, Rana Goodman, Linda Krivec, and Jack Herlihy our official spokesperson. These people walked the neighborhoods, knocked on doors and stood in Anthem Center hours on end collecting signatures and explaining the issue.

Thanks to the Board for your 100% support and for allowing the Task Force to make a plan and move forward quickly and freely and to Mike Dixon who worked diligently behind the scene speaking to our elected officials.
Thank you to the Blogs for bringing the issue to the attention of all. Without their support the 2155 signatures on the petitions and the flood of letters would never have been possible. Thank you to the Clubs and SIGs that let us speak to their members

Thank you to entire Sun City Community for your support. This community is made up of good and caring people who united for a common cause. We must remain vigilant. I am also posting an Email from Andy Hall, the Long Range Planning Manager for Henderson. He has told us what we must do. Thank you all.
Lynn Pendleton

The letter from Andy Hall at City of Henderson follows:

Lynn,

Thank you for your interest in the development processes of the City of Henderson. Input from residents allows the elected officials and staff to understand the concerns of residents and make more informed decisions. As you may be aware, the City of Henderson is currently working on an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan that will establish some guiding principles for future development in the West Henderson area. One of the important elements of the plan will be the transition from the established areas of the community into the emerging areas that will soon be improved. Because the site initially proposed to house the Calvary Chapel Church and associated improvements is undeveloped at this time, the property will be included in the new West Henderson Plan and accompanying land use map.

In order to ensure that your comments will be considered, I would suggest that you provide written comments to the Long Range Planning staff for review. Feel free to direct your comments to me and I will forward them to the appropriate staff members. I would further suggest that you request to be placed on a mailing list of stakeholders in the planning process so that you can be regularly updated about the progress of the Plan adoption. There will be opportunities for public comment at both the Planning Commission and City Council level prior to adoption of the West Henderson Plan.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by email (andy.hall@cityofhenderson.com) or by calling 267-1524 between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Thank you again,
Andy Hall, AICP Long Range Planning Manager

When I called Lynn this morning to personally thank her for her leadership on this issue, she told me that she talked with the BLM on Monday. They received more than 250 valid letters opposing the application, and her contact said that they had never seen so great a response opposing an application.  He did say that although the church application has not been officially withdrawn, the church and the City of Henderson are exploring alternate sites this week.
I let Lynn know that I will be talking with City officials next week to tie up any loose ends, verifying that Green Valley Church has officially withdrawn their application, and sharing with the City suggestions from Lynn’s Task Force for possible future use of the BLM property that would be more suitable to the SCA lifestyle.
Thanks again to Lynn and all our residents for working together for the benefit of all of us in SCA.

Mike Dixon
Board President
