Can You Hear the Children Screaming Now?

A new assault on our community has been identified.  BLM is proposing to lease 20 acres of land immediately abutting Sun City to “Calvary Chapel Green Valley Church.”  The land in question is within the area commonly known as the detention basin, to the North of Volunteer Blvd and across from the Inspirada development.  See map on website. On the East, the proposed development abuts the West wall of the Westridge village. The overall plan includes a school and a day care center for up to 150 children.  It also includes a football field and 2 baseball fields.  The plan shows the day care center and the football field (with lights?) on the land immediately adjacent to Sun City.  The plan also shows an amphitheater.  This implies an elevation change to what is essentially flat land (the bottom of the detention basin).

Note that the location of this church/school is NOT as reported in Thursday's edition of the South Valley News near St. Rose Pkwy. and Executive Airport Dr. As shown on page 3 of the above LINK, the church/school immediately abuts Sun City's homes north of Volunteer.

This is a major threat to the Sun City ambiance, especially to those who live on or near Sebring Hills Drive to the North of Volunteer Blvd. School yard noise can easily carry up to a half mile into nearby homes.

Emergency Board Meeting. There will be an emergency meeting of the Board on Monday, Oct 22 at 11:00AM to discuss this issue.  Also, there is the regularly scheduled Town Hall meeting on Monday evening at 6:30PM in Freedom Hall.  Andy Hafen of the Henderson City Council will be a guest at that meeting.

This matter is urgent in that all comments to the BLM must be received by November 19, 2007.  We all need to work together to prevent this plan from becoming reality, just as we did with the threat of helicopters back in 2002.
