Dump Bob Frank

Ignorance is not bliss

First, there was that rumor that David Berman has been doing everything he could to get Bob Frank off of the Board. If true, what was that all about? Was David Berman attempting to work his will behind the scenes in behalf of whose interests? David might suggest, the Community's interests. [Update: David told me that he was working only to get Bob to resign his VP position, seemingly not that much different, thereby saving a majority of the Board from having to accept any responsibility for their planned removal action.]

Apparently Bob suffers greatly from that rare affliction of asking too many questions, challenging the basis for this or that policy decision, and if that were not enough, expecting not merely interest from his fellow board members but some answers. Unfortunately, our Board has not been disposed to stepping up to the plate, at least not up to Bob Frank’s plate, because his fellow Board members do not know, do not care, or do not wish to know more than what they already know (which may be nothing) about certain policy matters.

Admittedly, there is a certain degree of comfort in not finding out the facts since with such knowledge comes a certain degree of responsibility for acting on that information. And if you can avoid it, why assume any more responsibility than you are capable of handling. Only in that way will our Board members be able to avoid future accountability on matters they are reluctant to pursue. After all, what you do not know cannot harm you. But in not knowing, the Community may be at risk, but apparently that's not their fiduciary concern as a Board member, or is it? And then, of course, there are all of those bruised egos to contend with, no doubt damaged and suffering from efforts to hold them accountable for their inaction. Who wants that?

Looking back to our recent election experience, homeowners were primed to anticipate a new order, one that would be looking to challenge the status quo and the basis for our decision making processes. While Bob Frank was ready to do just that, others on the Board have apparently decided they are unwilling to pursue or recognize the existence of certain Community issues. Sadly, it would seem that the lesson here appears to be that in the absence of fact finding and self-examination, our new Board is content with accepting a degree of mediocrity.

OK then, David’s rumored efforts failed to get Bob Frank off of the Board. So, now what to do? If Bob is not leaving the Board on his own, remaining to challenge the coalition of the “willing,” what other avenues of expression (or oppression) are available to our illustrious Board members?

Second, and foremost, there is that more solid rumor that the Board is on the verge (actually scheduled to take place at the Board meeting today, Thursday) of removing Bob Frank from his vice president’s position on the Board. [UPDATE: A MAJORITY OF THE BOARD (ELAINE BERG, KAY DWYER, ROZ BERMAN AND BOB BERMAN) VOTED THIS AFTERNOON TO REMOVE BOB FRANK AS VICE PRESIDENT OF THE ASSOCIATION.]

One has to assume that it was not enough for Mike Dixon to have secretly brokered a deal to effect a coup by stealing the presidency of the Association from the grasp of the overwhelming vote getter, Bob Frank. That adroit maneuver, according to those in the know, was designed less to further the interests of Sun City Anthem, than it was to serve as a stepping stone to further Mike’s own partisan political interests as a Republican candidate in upcoming 2008 election.  In other words, the nature of Mike’s initial commitment to Sun City would be only temporary at best, and at worst, only as an expedient to further his partisan political efforts that are unrelated to Sun City. I guess ACE forgot to tell us about Mike's other plans.

For now, at least, it seems abundantly clear that Bob Frank’s prominence as Vice President of the Association is posing a problem for some members of the Board.

When our own election time comes around again to begin in a few short months, at least we will have the benefit of knowing then how each of our Board members voted on this date to meet this troubling challenge to better governance.

While I hope I have been misinformed, I fear otherwise.
