Subject: Sun City Anthem eMail Bulletin - Community Alert
The Security Patrol needs to inform all the residents of Sun City Anthem that there have been several in home thefts in the last eight days. The incidents involve a young man (or two) in their mid 30's that ring the door bell and inform the resident that the noticed the home is "For Sale" and their parents looking for a home in the area and they would like to preview the home because their parents are not able to be present. They normally park their car away from the home so that no one can identify the car or license plate, then go to the door and if the homeowners let them in the home, they wander around the home and look for items that are easy to pocket. the items that have been stolen are wallets, jewelry, keys and any other items that will fit in their pockets. The credit cards are then used within 15 minutes and the cash, of course, is gone. Even if the thieves don't steal anything, remember that they have seen and made a mental note of everything in your home. If there's something that they really want, and won't fit in their pocket, they will probably come back when you're not home and take it.
You MUST NEVER allow any person you don't know inside your home for any reason! If it's a contract worker, they must possess a valid identification from their employer. If they are interested in looking at your home as a potential buyer, they must contact your sales agent or broker and make arrangements to be accompanied by them in the preview process.I would remind you that you still should NEVER let the strangers out of your sight while they're in your home!
I will provide you all with a description of the suspect so that if he presents himself to you at the door, you can call the Police at 911, then call the Security Patrol as we can respond faster and possibly get a license number of their vehicle, if not keep them in our sight until the Police arrive and are able to apprehend them.
Description: Light Skinned Hispanic Male, 5'10" to 5'11" tall, Mid 30's. Usually wearing a baseball cap w/ football team logo.
Has identified himself as "Mark Moretti", phone number: 702-370-7192(probably fictitious)
Reportedly driving a small sub-compact, light colored car.
Please pass this information to all your neighbors and friends.

Community Alerts, October 2008
At the recent Town Hall meeting this past week and in response to a resident's concern voiced over increasing and disturbing incidents of crime and scam activities in our community, President Roz Berman told the audience that the board had no objections to keeping the community informed of such events as long as the name and address of the affected parties are kept confidential.
This is a welcome departure from prior constraints that had been placed on the Security Patrol that prevented the reporting of such events. rlj
Dave Servello's SCA Security Patrol Notices are listed below.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: On 10-15-08 the SCASP received information that a "well dressed, white, male" (no vehicle description or physical description) obtained entry into a residents home. He apparently talked his way into the home by telling the resident he wanted to "view the home for possible purchase". Shortly, after the nice man left the resident noticed his wallet was missing, and within three hours he was notified by a credit card company that his IDENTITY HAD BEEN STOLEN. The SCASP has been advising it's members that there are a number of persons of different ethnic groups pursuing this criminal activity throughout the SCA community for some months now. We have six to twelve incident reports to date on this criminal activity. Anyone with a home up for sale at this time may become involved in this situation. Those of you who live beside or near a home that is up for sale (signs posted) should be ever watchful of all persons on those properties and report them immediately to the HPD via 311.
IMPORTANT NOTICE NUMBER TWO: On 10-14-08 the SCASP was notified that a resident's home that was up for sale was broken into. It seems that the residents were moving furniture to another home and when they returned they noticed boarded up "doggie-door" was kicked in, but nothing was taken. The criminals probably did not have enough time to finish their work. What is interesting here, was that a "Repo Company" was seen and reported to the HPD for removing equipment from the rear yard (pool area equipment, fans, etc.) of the property next door to the home with the doggie-door kicked in. A neighbor thought the Repo Company was acting suspicious. Good call. It is much better to report such incidents than to do nothing.
IMPORTANT NOTICE NUMBER THREE: On 10-12-08 a SCA resident notified the SCASP that a "young couple" (no description) driving a Yellow, Older Van, was going about the neighborhood seeking entry into homes that are up for sale.
IMPORTANT NOTICE NUMBER FOUR: On 10-8-08 a SCA resident, who's home is posted for sale, notified the SCASP that a "Hispanic Male" came to her door seeking entry by indicating he was interested in purchasing home in SCA for his mother. However, this particular SCA resident had a different "Hispanic Male" come to her door on a prior occasion saying the same thing. The resident notified the SCASP and her real estate agent who told her "there is a scam going on in Sun City Anthem at this time, where they look at homes and come back to rob them." The resident said she is afraid, but feels better knowing the Security Patrol is on Duty.
IMPORTANT NOTICE NUMBER FIVE: Did you know that the HPD records confirm that 12 vehicles were stolen within Sun City Anthem in 2007, and our number one incident is vehicle break-ins while parked in the home owners driveway. Most vehicle break-ins are when the vehicle was parked and left unlocked, and when residents left purses, wallets, garage door openers, etc. in plain sight.
IMPORTANT NOTICE NUMBER SIX: Joe Mihalich, SCASP Communications Officer, advised me that a person "dressed in black wearing a black ski mask" was seen prowling about the Mountain View Village during the late night hours. I am interested in knowing if anyone else has seen such a person dressed in black. We have one report from a resident who lives in Mountain View that someone is stealing gasoline from his vehicle. I would be interested if anyone else has knowledge of anyone stealing gasoline.Dave Servello, Chief, Sun City Anthem Security Patrol
