June's Security Patrol Update from Chief Dave Servello
Here are some of the most current alerts. If any one sees or knows something about the suspects or vehicles please get that information to me as soon as possible.
1. On 6-24-08 in Black Mountain Village at approximately 0930 hours (9:30 AM) one Older male and one Younger female were seen taking pictures of our residential homes, and when a resident questioned them the resident was told they were asked by the SCA Association to check for abandoned homes. They were seen driving a Landscaping Truck.
2. On 6-23-08 in Black Mountain Village between the hours of 4 PM and 4:30 PM one Male and one Female knocked on a residents door and claimed they were sent by the SCA Association to change the locks on that house. These two persons were also driving a Landscaping Truck.
3. On 6-25-08 in Desert Sky Village residents observed two "weird looking males" driving a dark Green "beat-up" van going into and out of homes that are under construction.
4. Same area as #3 (Somersworth & Garberville) street lights had wires stripped from them but the would-be thieves did not have time to complete their work. Henderson City Public Works Department made the necessary repairs on 6-26-08. This is one of the areas where our SCASP has increased its Walking, Biking, and Driving Patrols.
5. On 6-18-08 at 2015 hours a "prospective renter" (tenant) parked her car in the Driveway of a Black Mountain Village home. The vehicle was left unlocked, and before going into the house she noticed a Dark Green Van without hub caps and with Black Color Wheels with an Older Hispanic Male and a Hispanic Female sitting in it parked nearby on the street. Both appeared to be in their 20's. When she returned to her car her purse was gone as was the Dark Green Van. These two person may have been involved in the Vehicle Break-ins in the Highland Village area.
6. 6-17-08 in Black Mountain Village at approximately 7:20 PM an unidentified male, age 20's, approximately 5' 7" Tall, driving a royal blue small car, broke into a resident's vehicle that was parked in her driveway by throwing a rock through the window. What is interesting is that the resident was sitting in her courtyard and saw the thief in action. He reached into her car and took her purse.
7. On 6-18-08 a female resident (Mountain View Village) was followed home from the Vons Shopping Area by a person driving a White Jeep Cherokee, unknown year & plates. She was clever enough to stop at a nearby residence, pound on the door, and ask for help. The jeep left the area.
8. On 6-16-08 in the early morning hours (?) an elderly gentleman approached an SCA resident and advised her that some was wrong with one of her tires. He then said he was a resident of SCA and asked her some personal questions. The resident left the area and when she checked her tires she found nothing wrong with them.
These reports were forwarded to the HPD, and SCA has increased its Patrols in these areas. Still, no one should ever park a car in a driveway unlocked and especially with personal possessions in plain view. These people are after garage door openers and valuables.
Security Patrol could use more volunteers, Walking, Biking, and Driving. TO VOLUNTEER CALL 614-6751.
I have assigned Assistant Chief, Rich Baker, to the Neighborhood Watch Program in February 2008. He tells me that he will be scheduling meetings within 30 days that will involve the HPD, SP, Residents in the Anthem Center.
The Security Patrol needs more eyes and ears in this area. I believe we have the necessary HPD support.
Respectfully, Dave Servello, Chief, SCASP
