Travel Destination:  Bora Bora

Bora Bora is the most acclaimed of the French Polynesian

isles and long known for its beauty. Its topography is

dominated by craggy mountains that loom dramatically

above the turquoise green lagoon surrounding the island.

Mt. Pahia and Mt. Temanu dominate the landscape as

tall blunt-topped mountains with steep cliffs dropping to

the sea. One of the loveliest lagoons in the South Pacific,

it is enclosed by a perfectly circular barrier reef dotted with

tiny islets. The colors of the water range from brilliant

turquoise to amethyst to the sparkling white beaches.

Bora Bora is an attractive island, but there are few facilities

and the natives are a bit haughty and not sociable. There is

the University of Bora Bora and numerous nondescript shops.
