How to log into a Chat Room To start chatting, enter your user name (any nickname) and click "OK Connect!" Your user name must be a unique for your current chat session.
Get user information You can get information on a any user in a room. To see this information click on the visitor's name from within the user list. Any information that the user entered into the 'Your Profile' section will be displayed in the main chat room for you to view.
To send a message To start chatting, Chat messages are displayed in the main chat window. To add to the conversation, type in your message in the text box below the main chat window area and click on 'Send' button or hit the return key on your keyboard. If you are on a Macintosh you will need to hit the Return button on your keyboard.
By default your message is sent to all users.
Send a private chat request to a user You can send a private chat request to any user in a room. To send the request to the visitor, click on the visitor's name from within the user list, and click on the 'Private Chat' button. You can also double click on a user to invoke the private chat command. You will see a smaller window pop up and you can chat with the user in that window.
Ignore a user You can ignore any visitor in a room. To ignore a user higlight a user's name, from within the chat user list, and then click on the 'Ignore' button. All ignored users will display a strike-thru through their name.
You will not see anything the ignored visitor types, and the ignored visitor will be unable to have a private chat with you. To un ignore a visitor, click on the user's name from within the chat user list, and click on the 'Accept' button. You can ignore as many people as you wish.
Ignore Private Messages You can ignore all private messages. When a private message is initiated you can click on the 'Ignore' checkbox and all future private messages will not be seen.
Bold Button   If you wish to BOLD your messages in the main chat window.
Italic Button   If you wish to Italicize your messages in the main chat window.
Color Button   If you wish to change the color of your messages in the main chat window.

Room Audio   Chat is equipped with the following sound files.

Float Button   If you wish to resize your chat room, click on the "Float" button. This option opens the chat room in a separate window. This separate window can be resized and moved about on your screen. Close the window or click Unfloat to return the window to the original Web page. The default size of the floating window is 75% of your screen. Drag a corner or edge to resize it.
Control Panel   

(customize your chat session & roam to a different room)
The 'Control Panel' button evokes the Chat Control Panel. The control panel allows you to customize your chat session. The control panel allows you to do the following:
  • Rooms Tab - displays other available rooms chat in.
  • Create Tab - create a new public or hidden room
  • Users Tab - search for other users
  • Color Tab - displays a list of colors that you can use to change your displayed user name in the main chat window.
  • Icons Tab - click on a icon to be displayed in the main chat window.
  • Font Tab - local font size, my user font, and window color.
  • Settings Tab -
    • Double space text
    • Beep on enter
    • Beep on exit
    • Join/leave message
    • Timestamp messages
    • Heartbeat - set a pulse to stay connected to the chat room
    • Block all private - blocks all private massages
    • Turn off Profile - turns off profile information
    • Page admin (if room admin is present)
    • Admin Console (if you are logged in as admin)
    • Moderation Console (if moderation is turned on)
  • About Tab -
    • ParaChat Server version
    • Your operating system version
    • Your Java version.
Help Button   If you have any questions on how to operate your Chat room, do one of the following: (1) avoid activating the "Help" button at the bottom of the Chat Room; instead, return to this page on the SCA View website because we have modified the User Guide to conform to the version of Live Chat we are using. You may reach this page by clicking on the "Forum & Chat Welcome Message" Link at the top of your Live Chat page; (2) in the yellow message window type in the following: %help; (3) view "%help" shortcut options by clicking here, or you can print out these keyboard shortcuts; or (4) click on the "Help" button and you will be directed the the help pages on the ParaChat website. When you arrive at that site, click on: "User Guide" in the far left hand column. If you have the "86" blocking program installed, hold down the Ctrl key while you depress the "Help" button or click on the Send button (for %help). You should note the ParaChat User Guide includes a number of features not present in our version of Live Chat.
Log Off button   If you wish to leave a chat room, click on the 'Log off' button and you will exit the room
Leaving a chat room If you wish to leave the chat room click on the "Log off" button.
