Did Elves Take Control of the Anthem Compendium? On Publishing the Proposed Budget for FY 2005
If we can believe that elves had a hand in stealing Christmas, [1] perhaps they were instrumental in invading and taking control of the Anthem Compendium this past week. What else could explain that unusual and quite strange event that took place with the AC’s publication of the Finance Committee’s proposed budget for FY 2005. While it's unlikely that a computer virus was at work, a more likely explanation was that this publishing event was merely the work of some kindly elves looking to improve communications between our association’s Finance Committee and the resides they ultimately serve. While we had been led to believe that such publication was a non-starter, a no, no, verboten, it was apparent that that advice did not extend to the airways of the Anthem Compendium.
It would appear that following our insignificant blurb on what to expect next in the budget process, elves quickly convened to engage in what they incorrectly perceived as a needed effort at some type of damage control, least our residents not be more fully informed. And with the result, voilà, the proposed budget for FY 2005 suddenly came to light for the benefit of others to read. Not that we did not have it right in the first place, we were right on the mark—both from the well understood policy of the Finance Committee, as well as accurately reflecting that 99% of the community were initially dismissed as potentially having some interest in the outcome of the Committee’s work.
It’s all too interesting to find that when some light is cast on a problem, in this case the need for improved communication, how quickly that problem can be addressed and corrected. If only more issues could be resolved in such a responsive manner.
Whether by such a circuitous route, we applaud the Anthem Compendium and the outcome of publishing the work of the Finance Committee and making their recommendations available to a broader audience.[2] [The Board-adopted budget and slide presentation may be viewed by clicking the Link below: http://www.anthemwebs.com/Documents/Budget_Presentation_CY2005.pdf]
Ron Johnson October 24, 2004 P.S. Just who were those anonymous, mysterious elves? As we have learned from our past experience, it’s quite rare, if non-existent, for the AC to publish articles without some form of attribution, especially when it entails community association-related articles and involving the publication of a key committee-produced document. Apparently seeking anonymity, our mystery elves would seems to prefer to remain shrouded in obscurity, working under cover or behind the scene. There is, of course, the more famous book by Dr. Seuss, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," as well as the movie staring Jim Carrey in "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas."
