THE SCA VIEW-JOURNAL

Serving Sun City Anthem  and Solera through written expression, commentary, and the arts

·  The Change in Leadership Bodes Well for Sun City. Contrary to the expectations of some, all signs are pointing to a successful changeover in our management style from what some had come to view as a benevolent dictatorship to a less grating, more benign and open oligarchy—or as I has have affectionately referred to our newbie board members, the gang of four. Our hopefully quick learners, admittedly on-the-job neophytes when it comes to running our very substantial business enterprise, will need assistance and support from their board piers. Based on my observations, it is clear that our new board members are working well together and are intent on bringing us the very best they can offer. We wish them well and encourage everyone to support their efforts.

·  On Getting Some Answers. Exploring troubles in communications with the Election Committee and by the Finance Committee. An SCA View Editorial

·  The Puzzler of the Week? This new puzzler feature is designed to test our more well informed residents and to attract the attention of our more inveterate detectives among us. It looks like a new recreation center building going up. You tell us.   The Puzzler of the Week?

·  A New Signal! Henderson’s traffic department has installed the long-awaited traffic signal at the intersection of St. Rose and Executive Airport Drive.

· Pulte Relents on Demand to Cease and Desist. After we were accused by Pulte’s patent attorney of Trademark Infringement, Unfair Competition, Dilution, Copyright Infringement and Cybersquatting and demanding that we cease use of certain trademarks claimed by Del Webb, and following an exchange of correspondence, Pulte has written us to advise that they are withdrawing their objections and will permit us to use their trademarks as we deem appropriate. An interesting & welcome outcome.

·  What Does that New Sign Mean? As you are driving down Eastern Ave. and approaching what used to be Green Valley Pkwy., you might have noticed a new sign in the median: LIBRARY. To find out more: LIBRARY

·  Independence Center Activities. Some candid workout shots.   Pictures

·  Is our SCA Finance Committee in a Pickle? The short answer is, Yes! To find out why, visit out website:   In a Pickle

·  Coming Up. A critical review of Trumpets’ new member-only lunch & casual faire dinner offerings. Your input is welcome and would be greatly appreciated.

· Message Board. For general information: Information Page.  For direct access: Message Board.  Now totally user friendly, no barriers, no passwords required.

Opera Night at Hanneman Hall. Wednesday, October 6th, Delaware Room, 7:00 p.m. Come and join us in a production of Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti. The opera takes place in Scotland in the 1700s and is based on Sr. Walter Scott’s novel, The Bride of Lammermoor. The opera premiered in Naples on September 26, 1835. Its "mad scene" is said to contain the highest vocal note of any standard opera, two E-flats. The Plot: Edgar and Lucia love each other, although their families are at loggerheads. When Lucia’s brother, Henry Ashton, the head of the family, ascertains the state of affairs, he endeavours by a forged letter to prove Edgar unfaithful, and informs Lucia that only by a marriage with Lord Arthur can the ruin of their house be averted. Lucia yields to pressure, but when Edgar returns, curses her for her unfaithfulness, tears the ring from her finger, and treads it under foot, she becomes insane. She slays Arthur in the bridal chamber and dies in anguish. When Edgar learns of Lucia’s death and of her innocence, he kills himself upon her grave. [Source: Wikipedia]
